Raising Funds
Light The Night. Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure. Team In Training. Relay For Life. Costumes for Cures.
I know what you’re thinking. “Wait…what was that last one?” Well, it is brand spankin’ new, so don’t feel bad if you don’t know it yet.
I have been blogging for the MPN RF for a little while now, and I greatly enjoy it, but just talking about patient advocacy feels too passive sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not putting away my soapbox anytime soon, but I just couldn’t sit idle any longer. I had to take some sort of action. And then it hit me. Fundraising! Thus, Costumes for Cures was born.
This event is a combination Costume Contest/Trivia Night. For a $10 donation, guests receive drinks, and snacks and can participate in the Trivia event. Throughout the night guests can vote for their favorite costume, and at the end of the evening both the costume contest and trivia winner receive their prizes. This year the prize was a restaurant gift certificate to each winner.
This being the first year for the event, attendance was rather low, but I am hopeful that Costumes for Cures will one day be as well known, and effective as any of those big name fund raisers I mentioned. All the money raised is going to the MPN Research Foundation. See http://www.mpnresearchfoundation.org/images/files/ANNUALREPORT2010.pdf for information on where the donations go.
Many many thanks to everyone who attended the event, and everyone who donated to the cause. You helped make this event a success!
If anyone wishes to make a donation now, they are still being accepted at the following website. http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/costumesforcures/costumesforcures
I can’t wait for next year!
